View Full Version : XP Pro - Default desktop's for all users

I'm trying to set the default desktop and theme configs
for any new user on a machine. I know I can force things
through Group Policy, but I do want to allow people to
change things if they'd rather have the default XP start
menu, desktop theme, etc.
I would like the default to be Classic Start menu and all
the XP "enhancements" turned off, to allow for better
performance and provide my users with what they are used
to seeing in Win2K.
Anybody think of how I can do this? Is there a certain
registry hive I can export and import to another area in
the registry?
TIA,

Create a new user account. Then login with this user. Make all your changes
and customizations. Then logout and back in as an Administrative user. Go to
System Properties -> Advanced tab and click on settings under User Profiles.
Click on the User you set your customizations in and click the Copy To
button. Copy to C:\Documents and Settings\Default User. Set Permitted to use
value to Everyone. Then press OK
This will copy your customized profile to the Default User folder, which is
used when no other profile is available (i.e: new users).
