View Full Version : Is this top posting problem due to SP1
Bob Smith

I know this is about OE6 and not XP but ever since I put on SP1 people have
been telling me to stop top posting. I use OE6 and I cannot see how to stop
top posting.
Any advice?

Top posting is the default way MS decided that folks should be posting,
once again ignoring the RFCs.
I don't recall a way to get OE to post correctly other then manually
scrolling down to the end of the post and adding your comments.

Don't listen to the twits, I don't have time to scroll down 100 lines to
read a reply. Just keep top posting!

Ignore the peer pressure and post however you feel comfortable :-)

Here is my thought on this for what it is worth and I know it is darned
little.
There are times when top posting is appropriate as well as bottom and
interspersed posting. Choose whichever suits the situtation.

I use OE6 too, and I don't top post. Regardless of where OE puts
the cursor for you, you *can* move it wherever you want.

My vote is in favor of top posting unless it is necessary to split post for
clarity. I have already read the OP and if I can't remember what the top
post was in reply to,...I got a problem!!! I find having to sometimes scroll
through a 4 kb OP again just to find a 3 word response at the bottom quite a
pain in the you know what.

The twits being those of us who sort of somewhat try to play by the
rules and not insult anyone, other then MS that is?? Nice sales pitch.
At least you're living up to your name.

Well, since top posting is the default action WHO changed the rules?

Follow Ron Summers link. MS couldn't follow a standard that they did't
create, and even then, I doubt they could follow their own standards.

By the act of posting through your ISP you displayed your address
for every hacker in the world to see .
Only Newbies top post, as you will find out when you graduate to the
real world of usenet.

Who made you GOD?
First of all, you replied to kurttrail's post. I don't see his real e-mail
address listed anywhere. Just because you post through your ISP, in no way,
what-so-ever means that you automatically display your e-mail address to
everyone or anyone. Putting your e-mail address into the configuration of
your newsreader makes it visable. Hmmm, who's really the newbie here?
Also, I'm definately not a newbie but I top post my replies unless I'm
replying to a message that's already been bottom posted. It's a matter of
preference. I prefer to see the reply right away as I've already read the
message that's being replied to and I can post anonymously via my roadrunner
account anytime I want and no hacker is going to be able to do anything to
me, my e-mail or my computers within my home network. Get a grip then get a
life!

The best the average hacker could do is DoS my DSL router. The really
good hackers would have to get through both a hardware & software
firewall to get to my computers, both at work & at home.

Moron, my reply was bottom-posted, only my post's EULA is at the top of
the my replies. Unlike MS, I don't hide my usage terms from the view of
the End User. Think of it more as a header to my replies.
I used to not give a sh*t about top vs. bottom posting, as I'm not one
to follow tradition for tradition's sake, but I've learned to bottom
post most of my replies, just to cut down on having conversations with
anal dickheads like you, that have nothing better to do than than bitch
about it what they have absolutely no control over, the actions of other
people.
No reply is neccessary, unless you want to give me another good laugh at
your expense.

Microsoft did actually. The default is bottom posting but when they were
doing that voodoo that they do they decided to go with top posting for some
reason.

BBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Wrong, I have been using USENET since early 90's and I
top post. As another poster said: I hate scrolling 100 lines to read "me
too".
