Help: dual boot to single boot

I have partiton magic and am currently dual booting XP and ME. I
would like to remove ME. I have
the following:

C: Disk1: Active primary FAT32 (WinME)
D: Disk2: primary NTFS (WinXP)

I have ported over all the applications from ME to XP and now wish to
install Linux over it. What is the best way to remove ME from the
boot list?

If you are using the XP bootloader, removing Me will remove the bootloader
for XP.
To install Linux, you will need to create the partitions first. I also
suggest either using a bootmanager like Bootmagic that is included with PM
or choose to use a boot floppy to boot Linux.

You can remove ME by editing boot.ini which is a hidden file on your
C: drive. Just remove the line pertaining to ME. You might also
want to delete c:\windows and all its sub folders on HDD1. Likewise,
you can delete io.sys, msdos.sys, bootsect.dos, and command.com on the
C: drive.

DO NOT mess with any other files in the root of drive C. Remember,
your XP boot sector and boot files reside on Drive C even though your
XP windows folder is on Drive D: HDD2. So be very careful when you
install Linux that you don't overwrite the XP boot sector on Drive C.
