View Full Version : Opening a downloaded disk

I recently switched to a new computer and am having
trouble opening the files that I copied onto a floppy
disk from my old computer. The message that pops up when
I try to open the downloaded file that is now on my new
computer reads: "The drive or network connection that
the shortcut 'Shari.Ink' refers to is unavailable. Make
sure the disk is properly inserted or the network
resource is available, and then try again.
I don't know what I need to do so that I can access these
files. Can anyone give me some help?

A .Lnk is simply that a link. What you copied was a shortcut
to the files. The shortcut is a pointer that directs Windows to
the disk/folder/file to resolve the shortcut.
You will need to go back to the original PC and copy the files
themselves, not the .Lnk shortcuts.

Hi,
It sounds like you copied a Shortcut to your floppy drive instead of the
actual file.
Go back to your old computer and right click mouse click the file or files,
and then choose Copy.
And then go to your floppy drive in My Computer and right mouse click it and
then choose Paste.
This will make sure that you're copying the actual file rather than a
shortcut to the file.
