Cannot install this hardware - to non existing printer

[Chuck]

Startup finds and insists there is a printer attached.
When I attempt to complete the installation, it is
rejected, either with a request for an installation CD
or "unknown port" message.

I have tried de-installing the printer I have, changing
the port it goes to (USB), and deleting USB root and
such. It still comes up.

What can I do?
