View Full Version : Can not share Program Files

I have two computers networked together through a Linsys 4 port router.
Everything works fine and I can share everything on each computer except
Program Files. The message I get when I try to open this folder on the
other computer is "Program files is not accessible, Access is denied". Is
this normal, and is there any way around this. Any help will be
appreciated.

Users should be able to read (but not write) Program Files on their
local computer, so I suspect you have some overly restrictive share
permissions. Right-click the Program Files folder and check your Share
tab and see if Everyone has full control over Program Files. Then grant
Change control to Users if you want write access.

This only applies to XP Pro with simple file sharing disabled. If you
are using XP Home Edition, then you can't share anything other than the
Shared Documents folder, unless you go into the Sharing and Security
tabs from Safe Mode, or use the cacls.exe command. Note that everyone
who remotely accesses XP Home is authenticated as Guest, so you have to
set/change the Guest permissions, not User or Administrators.
