i have xp and i can receive chinese characters in
messenger and email from friends, but how can I
type them in return?

Hi David:

You first have to load the Chinese IME from your XP CD. The
instructions and samples are very easy to follow at the web site I've
posted below. Go there and follow his instructions. Good luck.
