Norton Antivirus Auto Protect keeps disabling itself.
Any reason for this?

If you haven't updated your virus definitions in a while and done a
complete system scan, you've probably got one of the several viruses
that disables antivirus programs. If this isn't so, go to
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and search Symantec's knowledge base.
This Symantec KB article http://tinyurl.com/oz2v lists several
possibilities: "Auto-Protect displays "Off" and Email Scanning displays
"Error" in the Norton AntiVirus 2003 System Status screen." I'm sure
there are lots more.

This is usually symptomatic of virus infection. There are quite a few
viruses that immediately disable (break) av programs. Try scanning in
Safe Mode with Stinger, which you can get here:
