Just recently, I've noticed that when I come online, I've
been getting a lot of pop-ups. On one instance, I
brought up my task manager and clicked on to take me to
the process that was making the pop-ups. It's something
called csrss.exe, so I tried to end process and I was
told that this is a critical process and that the task
manager cannot end that process. No problem I thought,
I'll just do a search for it and then delete it. I found
it, but when I tried to delete it I got an acess is
denied error. That's when I screamed in frustration. I
went over it's properties and it appears that it was
created by the Microsoft Cooperation. I have MSN and I'm
more than willing to go to another service if no one can
help me to get rid of this. A pop-up program is not
needed to go online, so there must be a way of getting
rid of it. Thank you!

Jim;
For Messenger Service ads:
You need to install or enable a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q330904&
Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve
the real problem.
The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom.
The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.
Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports.
The firewall controls the traffic.

This will not work if you have AOL.
AOL is not compatible with Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
(ICF)
If you have AOL, you should contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party
firewall.

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/

For internet pop-ups, try one of these:

http://www.popupbuster.com/PopUpBuster/

csrss is indeed a critic component of the OS.
Without it you will not have a whole OS.
The problem you are having is not due to csrss per se,=20
but rather outsiders that are making use of one of the=20
services it can provide.

As you have already been advised, run a firewall=20
to resolve this issue.
