I put my PC into hibernation mode rather than powering it all the way down.
Works great.

My only complaint is that when I hit the power button, it takes a minute or
so to get back to the user selction, so I usually hit the button and walk
away, so I can come back once it's ready. However, apparently the
hibernation settings for this screen are different from the ones I set in
Power Management, because it hibernates after only a minute or so, instead
of the hours I specified. So...I hit the button, walk away, come back, it's
asleep again, hit the button, walk away, come back, asleep again, etc., etc.
I have to sit and wait for the selection screen to come up, then select a
login, THEN I can walk away.

Where can I change the hibernation settings for the user selection screen?

You could try checking to see which is the CurrentPowerPolicy=20
in HKey_Users\.Default\ControlPanel\PowerCfg=20
but it seems strange this would get changed from 0
