You will need a partition manager like partition magic ,
You will install it into XP then you will set it to
secure delete C: then copy D: into that position so it is
the first on the drive then create a new partition where
XP was. The drive letters will swap over.When you hit go
it reboots into DOS and carries out the commands its a
simple procedure.You may have to edit your boot.ini if it
still asks you which to boot into.
Without this you will have to format and reinstall
windows ,
No serious computer geek should be without this program.

You can cheat and modify the boot.ini by removing the entry for Windows 98,
then delete all the files on C: as long as you don't delete the following
files:

boot.ini
BOOTSECT.DOS
CONFIG.SYS
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
NTDETECT.COM
ntldr

You probably have a page file on that drive too unless you've changed your
VM settings. It's called

pagefile.sys

Example of the boot.ini after you've modified it:-

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

Hope this helps
