I did see a post in here by Michael Peterson on removal
and that other posts had been made in reference to this
update slowing machines. Just adding to that...I've got a
Dell Dimension with XP Home Edition, applied the 811493
update and my machine's program functions came to a crawl!
Uninstalled within Add/Remove Programs, along with the
814995 update. When uninstalling 811493, I was prompted
that 814995 may not function properly, so bye-bye to that
one too. Machine is back to full speed now.
Microsoft, you've got bugs or issues with this 811493
update that need to be addressed.

False "alarm". You could have left 814995 alone.

They know and they are working on it.

Thanks for the reply! I'm ok on the 814995, although I
don't even know if I really need it? It's not a "Critical
Update". Microsoft is good at working hard to resolve
glitches, etc. I'm sure we will all see a fix to 811493
soon!

At least I'm not the only one having technical
difficulties after 811493... my systray has a few rascally
components now, namely the .dll for my audio card... hope
there's a fix soon
