Is there any place where I can find detailed instructions on setting up xp
remote access over an adsl router?

Thanks

It's relatively easy if you are familiar with your router setup screen.
Basically you need to forward TCP port 3389 to your computer's internal ip
address. You should consult your routers documentation if you're unsure on
how to forward. I'll try to give broad steps.

1. Look up your computers ip address. Start, Run, CMD, This will open a
window type in IPCONFIG, Enter. This will list your ip address somewhere.
It will probably start with 192.168
2. Go into your router's setup screen. (consult router documentation)
Forward the TCP port 3389 to your computers ip address. (192.168.?.?)
3. Start, Right mouse click on My Computer and choose properties.
4. Go to the remote tab and make sure Remote Desktop/Remote Assistance is
check marked.
5. Make sure xp's built in firewall is either off or TCP port 3389 is open.
This can be found by Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, Right Mouse
Click on Local Area Network.
6. Go to the advanced tab. Make sure the Internet Connection Firewall is
unchecked or open up TCP port 3389.

If you've done all of this correctly then Remote Desktop will work. Remote
Assistance is another story though. If your router supports Universal Plug
and Play then make sure that's enabled and that should work too.

Good Luck
