Situation: two computers in a home network, both XP Pro...one a desktop,
one a laptop, assigned to a workgroup. When using Network Neighborhood and
connecting to the laptop from the desktop, I'm asked for username/password
and then I enter the info and connect fine. When connecting to the desktop
from the laptop, the connection goes straight through with no username
password requested.

The hard drive on the laptop was just recently formatted and XP Pro
installed so I believe it must be some security setting on the desktop that
allows this behavior but I can NOT find it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
Jerry

The one that asks for a username and password has had simple file
sharing disabled in the Folder Options control panel. It's curious
because simple file sharing is the default setting for most installation
scenarios I have experienced.

Thanks Kent,

Checked my desktop computer and laptop computer..."Use Simple File Sharing"
is NOT checked on either one.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Jerry

Either check simple file sharing on both, or create the user accounts on
the one that you created on the other, so that a user can logon to one
machine and be authenticated to the identical username on the other
machine.
