Local Security Policy

Thanks very much for any help. I'm running XP Pro SP1.

When I try to run Local Security Policy or gpedit.msc, I get an error:

Snap-in failed to initialize
Name: Group Policy
CLSID: ....

When I run MMC and try to add the Group Policy Editor, it's in the
list, but "Microsoft" is not listed in the Vendor column and I get the
above error when I try to add it.
