I have been attacked visciously by an explorer/zero popup.com anti pop up
ad. I have tried to dump temp.internet files and cookies to stop these
attacks to no availe. I have run Ad Aware 6.0 to no availe.
While running Ad Aware I see the offender in the registry scan but it is not
called out as an object to remove. The specific ad that seems to have opened
up the flood gate is http://216.76.4.207/stoppopsad_3.gif Can anyone
suggest a method to stop these attacks? Irony at it finest is severely
interupting my ability to work on my computer.
Thanks in advance,
Joe Nelson

For Messenger Service ads:
You need to install or enable a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q330904&
Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve
the real problem.
The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom.
The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.
Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports.
The firewall controls the traffic.

This will not work if you have AOL.
AOL is not compatible with Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
(ICF)
If you have AOL, you should contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party
firewall.

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/

For internet pop-ups, try one of these:

Thanks Jupiter,
I decided to enable ICF instead even though it may interfere with network
comunications LAN.
I will copy and save the anti ad sites you suggested for future reference if
net com is affected.
Thanks again.

Your welcome Joe;
Just remember the popup stoppers are NOT a substitute for a firewall.
You need a firewall no matter what you use.
