After I installed XP Home Edition SP1 my computer now
fails to shutdown properly. It gets to the 'Windows is
shutting down' screen and seems to do everything it wants
to do, but the actual powering off (or restarting if you
are doing a restart) never happens.

Uninstalling SP1 makes everything work again, so it must
be an issue with SP1. Does anyone have any
reccomendations?

Martin.
