View Full Version : Problem with the Search function again

My search function had always worked fine, until today
where I have discovered that it is not searching in "All
files and folders" properly anymore.

My query is of a simple word, that I want to search for
all files in a specific folder, where all those files
have a different extensions.

I have discovered that it now only search in the files
with an extension it knows (.txt and .inc are the only
files for which I get a result), while before it was
searching all *.* files properly.

And I bloody know I should find more results than that.

This is driving me crazy, could anyone help ?

I am running XP - Home Edition

Hello Thomas,

The search feature within XP and XP SP1 is quite undependable. Eventually, I
gave up the ghost of trying to fix it with various patches and Registry
edits and downloaded a free program called Agent Ransack from:

http://www.agentransack.com

Maybe with the release of SP2 I'll once again use XP's native search feature
(that's assuming that Microsoft bothers to fix it), but until then, I depend
upon Agent Ransack to find all my files and words within files.

Thanks Alan,

I effectively found this link in a previous post on the
newsgroup...

I think I'll adopt your strategy.

Cheers,

Thomas
