I have a sony vaio notebook with winXP/home OS. I am
wanting internet and antivirus protection for it so I got
McAfee Internet Security 5.0 because that is what the
salesman sold me to be the best and now I have heard that
I may have problems if I install it because it may not be
compatible with winXP/home even though it claim to be for
winXP.
If anyone has a recomendation I would really appreciate
it.
Thanks in advance,
Maynard

The real problem is your tendency to serial trust relationships. First
you trust the salesman, then you trust your friend you told about what
you are going to do, and now you're trusting to get different or better
advice here. Your trust is too fleeting. :-)
Personally, I would trust the writing on the box. If the box doesn't
explicitly say it supports Windows XP, then I wouldn't install it. For
most applications, support for Windows 2000 is sufficient, but not for
an anti-virus/firewall product. If the box doesn't claim support for
Windows XP, take it back to the salesman.
Or trust McAfee's web site. http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/is5/default.asp
claims that this application works for XP, so give it a shot. Lots of
useful features there.
