for some reason, i cannot change the "read
only", "hidden",
attributs in xp properties. i am the administrator,
and there are no other users on the computer.
i do the right click on file (from explorer) and
deselect the highlighted "read only" button. all
seems fine, but when i check the properties again,
the same button is checked again. i've tried everything
to unselect that button permanently.
any ideas ? :)

This is as you say on a file ? or did you mean a folder ?

To see or change the read-only attribute on folders you must use the Dos =
attrib command. The read-only checkbox on folders appears to be as you =
indicate, but it is not. If you try it you find it will indicate that =
it is used to set the attribute on or off on all contained files. This =
is what it does, and is all that it is - a switch to modify the =
read-only attribute on contained files. After it is used it is =
returned to its intermediate, neither checked nor not checked, state. =20

--=20
Roger=20
