I was thinking about upgrading to Win XP Pro. I've got lots of graphic
programs on my Pent 4 computer with the Win XP home version, and lots of
other software including MS Office, etc. I've got several hard disks with
some on controller cards too. Would this upgrade involve a reformat and
install from scratch, or could I do it over my present OS?

Use the retail XP Pro Upgrade and it will be a painless upgrade. But always
backup when making changes to your system.
While in Windows Home, insert the Pro upgrade CD and choose upgrade as the
type of install.

You shouldn't have any problems upgrading from WinXP Home to WinXP
Pro, but don't expect this upgrade to fix any problems your having
with hardware drivers or applications. The two versions are
_identical_ when it comes to performance, stability, and device driver
and software application compatibility

Hi,
A regular WinXP Pro retail Full or Upgrade disk can be used to upgrade the
system without reformatting. There is an issue if SP1 is already installed
in the WinXP Home system, so you should uninstall if first if this is the
case.
