View Full Version : Critical update 811493 and more

I have three problems;

1) Delay in launching programs, or doing things (Removing 811993 fixed
that.)

2) Long delay in boot up (70 seconds), -- McAfee 7 and other startup apps
seem locked up for awhile.

3) No icons or task bar after coming out of screen saver (blank screen). All
I have is the background picture, and mouse cursor. Enter sleep (power
button) and then exit sleep will sometimes breakout of the problem,
otherwise it is reboot time.

Does update 817287 cause the last two? It can't be removed.

I can't answer that specifically.
I'm one of the fortunate few that is fully patched without issues on
multiple machines. Then again I don't use popular AV software except for my
latest acquisition. However your symptoms are indicative of video driver
issues rather than system problems.
According to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];817287
your symptoms related to a different problem.

After a second reboot things have settled down with 811493 removed. The
screen saver problem appears to be gone, and on boot up "a" delay is still
there, but it does not interfere with launching programs, looks like McAfee
is just busy doing something for 70 sec. Thanks for the response.
