Scott;
Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes all Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore.

Hi Mr. Jones,

Thanks for the reply, but I have one more Q:

- if i turn off system restore and it eliminates all
prior restore points (like you said), from which point
will i then restore once i reboot? this seems rather
terminal as a solution. i'm afraid to eliminate all
prior points...

Hi Mr. Jones,

I've done what you suggested (turn system restore off,
follow prompt, reboot, turn system restore back on,
restore from last (only) point).

Now I'm stuck with the exact same problem: I still can't
access my personal settings which were originally lost.
What's worse is that I now have no prior restore points
to restore to.

What now?

Thanks.

Scott;
That is the fix for System Restore.
The corruption wherever it was should now be gone, however that only
resolves the system Restore issue.
You can and should go to System Restore and create a Restore Point.

Exactly what settings are you looking for?
If it is data or files, search for them (from an Administrator
account)
If you had a corrupt profile, see this link:
