Stand alone 2000 workstation lockdown

Perhaps you might know: is there anyway to provide Profile-
specific lockdown on a stand alone machine in 2000 OR XP?
I managed to periodically lock myself down when I forget
to remove the "read" permission to the group policy folder.

In some cases the method outlined in KB 293655 is of use=20

That is as close as it gets without third-party software.
