After re-installing windows to try and fix another problem
my DSL internet connection was down. The "Create new
internet connection with username and password" option is
disabled (greyed out) so i can not restore the connection.

I was advised to install SP1 and if this was not
successfull to make some registry changes.

I downloaded SP1 on another PC and copied it to CD (NOT
the express install). After clicking on the SP1
executable the program uncompressed some files then
lanunced an installation wizard. The wizard disapeared
after about 1 second. I repeated this several times with
the same result.

Then I tried using regedit. The regedit screen appears
then disapears after about 3 seconds. The same result
occured after several tries.

I tried re-installing WindowsXP Pro again.
Regedit did the same thing!

I tried running excell and it seems to run OK.

Question 1) Any ideas what is going on? I would like to
solve the problem without wiping out my hard disk.

Question 2) If no ideas on #1 Mabe I should try and do a
clean install from scratch. In this case it would be nice
to start with a freshly formated hard disk. How do format
the hard dsik and start fresh?

To Format your hard drive just use the WinXP CD and choose new
install>Advanced. Then you can select which partition
to install WinXP in and format.
