windows system restore not working??

Please tell me this is hapening in windows 98 or windows XP
if this is happening in windows 98 then first you make
sure weather your hard disk is o.k. not making noise or
something unusual. then again r-install the windows 98
without removing and formating on the Hard Disk. In one
step of windows 98 installation ask you where you want to
install the windows and may be it will show the path also.
select your previous directory where windows was install.
after complete the installation you will get your windows
back as it iwth your previous programe.
