This may be a silly question, but is there any way I can
get rid of the 'email unread' note on the log on screen.
I have had one up there for ages now, and even if I go
into the account it says mail is unread in it, it wont
budge.
I am supposed to have a password protected setting, but
it's sharing my email accounts with everyone!!!

An easier way:
Download and install tweakui for xp and use its repair mail count feature or
use it to turn the mail count off completely.

Or edit the registry and delete the mail accounts you don't want:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail
