Greetings,
I had a new computer built using an ASUS P800P with an
Intel P4. Windows XP Pro was installed and allwas well. I
decided to check the device manager and noticed the SM bus
controller was no working peoperly. So, I uninstalled it.
Stupid me! Anyway, internet news group said to reinstall
Windows XP. During installation it asked whether I was
installing new or reinstalling. I elected reinstall. It
all began loading properly until it hit - Installing
Network with 32 minutes remaining. That was 12 hours ago.
Restarting cues me to install the Windows XP disc and
complete installation, which takes me back to - Installing
Network with 32 minutes remaining. Turning off the
computer is of no help. That's why I came here!! I sure
would appreciate any assistance you could afford!!
Sincerely,
TSgt John Barry USAF

The Intel SMS Bus controller is unknown to Windows XP's
device table. All you should have to do is download the Intel
Chipset driver and install. It will update all the "Core" MB
components. The current version of the driver is 5.02
It can be downloaded here

Thank you for that rapid response. Since the computer will
not even open Windows, do I download the driver to disc
and install the disc in my drive? Will it recognize it as
a driver update?
