Tony, Here is the message I got back from Microsoft. The
Tech that handled my case is also named Tony.

Dear Robert,

Thank you for your reply.

According to the symptom, I believe these updates conflict
with other programs. I have performed some research on my
side. It seems anti-virus programs such as McAfee may
cause this issue. We are still performing further
research.

Microsoft releases new updates to fix known issues and
increase the stability of Windows XP, and we have tested
as much of the software environment as we could to improve
the performance of the updates. However, we cannot
guarantee that the updates can install perfectly in all
computers because eve
ry computer has different software and hardware
environments.

I appreciate your understanding. Please rest assured that
we will keep working closely with third-party
manufacturers, and make every effort to completely resolve
this issue as soon as possible.

I am sorry for the inconvenience that this brings to you.
At this time, in order to avoid any conflicts, I suggest
we do not install these updates. Service Pack 2 is under
development now. It will contain all the updates that are
previously released, and will be more stable. Please wait
for the rel
ease of SP2. I suggest you keep an eye on our Windows
Update site for the latest news.

If there is any further information that I can provide,
please do not hesitate to let me know.

I look forward to your update.

Best Regards,

Tony
