I need to remove internet explorer from an XP machine, without removing =
all it's associated files (i.e. just delete iexplore.exe). In w2000 you =
could delete the iexplore.exe in \dllcache and then the one in program =
files, and after a scolding message about unrecognised file versions =
everything was fine, but XP seems to be able to restore both versions, =
so I can't get rid.=20
Any help appreciated,
Martyn

If you have Windows XP with SP1 or SP1a, you can remove access to
Internet Explorer from the Desktop and Start Menu and choose another
default browser in Control Panel.

Doing that isn't a problem, but I need to actually remove the exe file =
itself to stop some of the more enterprising temps on our remote sites =
finding it and looking for pron over the gsm modem. Usually I either =
delete it, or move and rename it so I can find it later but i can't =
prevent XP from restoring it as soon as I turn my back.
Any thoughts?

Unless you have given "temps" admin rights, why not just take user rights
away and leave it for Admin and System only.
