arrow scrolling too far is ticking me off

Hello.

I like to click the arrow buttons or the scroll bar to
move around windows (like many people). However, when I
do this, my window scrolls more than a window's length
(more like two). In other words, it jumps right past the
screen of information I want to see to the next.
Sometimes it actively resists my attempts to get it to
show me the screen I want to see. This is seriously
ticking me off. I want to fix this problem, but all XP
can tell me to do is change my "mouse wheel" settings. I
don't have a mouse wheel. I just want my screen to
scroll more moderately. If it matters, my screen is set
to 1280x1024.

Try downloading powertoys - tweakxp (from the microsoft site) and check the
mouse settings there. You can tel XP how many lines to scroll with each
click.

Hi, Tina.

Try launching Internet Explorer. Go to Tools/Internet Options, select the
Advanced tab and look under 'Browsing'. Make sure the box next to "Use
smooth scrolling" is checked.

Wasn't this established to be caused by one of the latest Microsoft updates?
I wonder if they have ever fixed it and reissued the update? I did not
install that one because of this problem.

I think that it was the Internet Explorer update KB824145 and that it can be
removed but you do run the risk of leaving your computer open to some bad
things coming in. The patch was put out for a reason.
Maybe one of the Microsoft people can add more and let us know whether they
are going to issue an updated patch that fixes this problem. I would really
like to get the patch installed myself but not until the scrolling problem
has been addressed.
