My WindowsXP was working fine until I downloaded updates
that would automatically popup. Now it locks whenever
(no notice, no particular time, or while using a
particular program or Internet).

I would like to run my Windows disk but it was lost when
I moved three weeks ago.

My question is: Is there a way to fix this manually or
can I purchase a CD that will fix it for me. The product
was registered and I have a printout (from my computer)
with all the information on it.

Thanks for the help.

Contact Microsoft Replacement parts for a replacement CD:
(800) 360-7561

As to your issue, try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior
to downloading and installing the updates. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

For future reference, you can turn off the update warnings and go to Windows
Update to select the updates you wish to install. Open Control Panel, open
System, go to the Automatic Updates tab, remove the check from "Keep my
computer up to date," click apply and ok. You will no longer be bothered by
popups from Windows Update.
