When I set the wheel settings in control panel>Mouse>Wheel
scrolling to a number greater than one, the setting only
works until I reboot, and then resets itself to one. Any
thoughts on what the problem is?

Well...
For me, I pitched both synaptics and intellipoint drivers. Now the wheel
works fine. However, if I breath on the touchpad, all hell breaks loose. A
'post it' or foam pad from a blank cd spindle seems to keep my thumbs away
from it. Not elegant, but functional...
