I have a new hp photosmart 7350. It WAS installed on my
system. For other reasons, I had to uninstall it. Today I
went to reinstall it, and everything went alright until I
was told to turn the power on and hook up the usb cable. I
did as told, then the "Found New Hardware" wizard came up
like normal. Then it went through all it's crap, y'know,
setting up a restore point and such, and then it said that
the install could not continue. The error message said
that the file specified could not be found. I tried
everything!!!!! I used the disk that came with the
printer, I downloaded the software off the web from hp, I
even specified the file and where to find it in the
"options" in the wizard. It HAS to reinstall. The files
are there!!!!!!!!!! Why can't the system find these damn
files?????? I need my printer back a.s.a.p. PLEASE HELP
ME!!!!!!!!!!111

Whats the name of the file? Try the I386 directory of the XP CD. Also try
the Windows\System Windows\System32\Drivers and Windows\Inf directories.
Also may be try to search HPs site and Google newsgroups for "photosmart
7350" and the name of the file it is asking for.

You may not have completely uninstalled everything. Try the procedures
here http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article%20One.htm from MS-MVP
Cari, who often posts in microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax newsgroup.

If that doesn't work, post back (or preferably, post in the print_fax
ng) and include the text of the error message, including the name of the
file that it can't find.

Finally, are you sure it didn't install? I recently got a new hp LJ1300
and attempted to install it. The installation got up to the last step
and then "rolled back" giving me a warning that it was unable to
complete the installation. It turned out that the _drivers_ were
installed fine (which permits printing), but the hp "toolbox" software
(which does things like tell you how much toner/ink is left) wouldn't
install. The only fix for this was to get the newest version of the
toolbox s/w by email from hp support -- it was NOT available for
download on the hp website. Although I eventually got the new toolbox
s/w and installed it, there is a school of thought that says that you
can easily do without this stuff. It is not in any way needed for
proper operation of the printer.
