Scott - I assume you have installed XP on your Dad's PC.
If you receive an activation error message, you must
telephone the activation help center (the number is
posted on the screen that says it encountered an error).
You can explain that you have removed the original copy
from a PC that was sold and as such they should provide
to you an unlock key that will get you up and running.

IF the XP license is not an OEM one. If it is OEM, it belongs only to
the original PC it was installed upon.
