My problem:
My computer run perfectly fine. Fast as usual. Until I
try to open anything on the net with Internet Explorer.
It acts like it's on dial-up!
If I open any folder and enter an internet address and
surf from there everything is speedy as normal. It's just
through IE that I get the slow down. I think I should
completely uninstall IE and install a fresh copy. But I
don't know how I would do that. I guess I could use a
folder address bar to browse to IE's website and install
from there but how do I uninstall Internet Explorer?

What I was doing:
The only thing I was doing around the time this started
that could be a possible culprit is, I ran Ad-
aware, Spybot - Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster and
RegSupreme. I'm not saying it started right after
running these, just saying after running these I got on
the internet and discovered I had a problem.

What I've tried:
I checked everything I know of. I restored my system
back to a time were it wasn't like this. I reset all my
connection settings. I called my ISP (Cox cable)and they
said my connection tested perfectly fine, actually pretty
fast. I reinstalled Internet Explorer (well IE's SP1
from the Microsoft Internet Explorer website). I ran my
Windows cd and repaired windows. But it's still acting
like it a dial-up connection! Any ideas? I'll provide
more info if needed. HELP!!!!

Other things to check

1. That the Security Zones are set to their "Default" value.
2. Check for any programs that might interact with IE
(Firewall, Anti-Virus, Cookie Handlers, etc )
3. Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc for the
existence of a Hosts file, if found rename, i.e.. Hosts.org
4. Go thru the "Advanced" options of IE and check for
any "obvious" settings that are not checked - Too many
to list in this posting. (Enable Video, Plug-ins, etc)
5. Check the "Privacy" tab in Internet Options for cookie
handling. Personally, I check "Override Default Handling"
and set 1st party cookies to "Accept" and 3-party
cookies to "Block".
6. Create a new user on the computer - Log into that
account and check IE's performance - if Normal then
some Registry key/value in your original profile is a
factor.
Other than those I can't think of any other ideas to suggest.

Are you sure that you do not have any anything like an antivirus etc running in the back ground? Turn off everything else except IE and try it again.

Please quote at least *some* of the original post for clarity. To the OP
(Original Poster), what does a scan with a current antivirus program
(meaning a version not later than 2002 and using updated virus
definitions) show? Also, remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy
from www.security.kolla.de and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be
sure to update these programs before running them. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. Once you've done
these things, if the problem persists, please post back for more help.
