restart the computer with your windows 98 disk in (make
sure that your CDROM is the first boot device). When the
wizard asks where you would like to install windows 98,
tell it to install to your empty drive.
You may want to split up the drive before you do the
install.

Didn't see the original poster but will reply here ... The following
web link points towards a site I found ages ago with a method of
retrofitting Win98se to a WinXP setup. It's a little hairy so I
haven't done it on my machine yet ...

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm

I've not tested it myself so I can't vouch for how reliable it is -
planning to test it on a bare install onto another PC as a guinea pig
test ...

Good luck and I hope the Doug Knox link is useful :-) Might be
difficult with the first disc being NTFS. Might need a 3rd party boot
loader ...
