I''ve just upgraded from Win 98SE to Win XP and I have run into a
number of irritating problems. I am running a 700mz Athalon with
384mb of RAM. I did a clean install to my system partition after
reformatting it.
Problem 1. I've used TweekUI to switch the default installation path
for new programs from C:\Program Files to E:\Program Files, but
whenever I install a new program it defaults to C rather than E drive.
I've checked the registry and I can't see anything amiss.
Problem 2. My icons keep switching to the generic windows icons.
When I try to change them back I first get a message that the .exe
file contains no icons then a message that the file
%systemroot%\system32\SHELL32.dll contains no icons. The frustrating
thing is that sometimes it works and I either get the icons I am
supposed to get or I am able to select them, either from the
appropriate .exe file or the shell32,dll file.
I checked the knowledge base on this issue and the only hit was
something that occurred in Win95.
I've tried doing a repair install, but the problems persist.
Help!
Thanks,
Allan
