View Full Version : Unable to modify share/security for folders!

I am not sure exactly when or how this happened, but I no
longer have access to the sharing and security options
for folders. I am running Windows XP Pro and my account
has administrator priveleges. When I try to share a
folder in explorer I click "share this folder" in the
left side-pane and nothing happens. When I right-click
the folder and choose "sharing and security" nothing
happens. Nothing at all. No error messages or anything.

Any possible causes or cures?

Thanks!

P.S. Since I thought it might be some nasty adware that
might have come with other software I ran adaware and
removed anything possibly suspicious (I removed these
files *after* I discovered the problem)

Can you get into the Properties of a folder, and if so
what is there (which tab dialogs).
When you run compmgmt.msc what happens? (This
is also the Manage selection in the R-click context
menu of My Computer)
If this opens, do you have the File Sharing/Shares node ?

Now that you mention it, I can't get folder properties
either!
Running the management works and yes I can see the folder
sharing node. However, I've never really used the
advanced administrative management interfaces in XP Pro
so I'm not exactly sure what to do with it all.

Why can't I get folder properties?

Thanks
