Is the i386 subdirectory part of the standard xp setup? I got a new HP with
XP home that has this under c:\ but the files look like they are compressed.
It is like it is there to be installed from.

It is often placed there by manufacturer to allow you to add additional
components and anything else that may ordinarily request you proved the
original CD ROM.

As will all versions of NT, they are compressed. You can use the EXPAND
program if you need to get just a few files. .

Can I copy this over to a cd or to a usb drive to free up the space on c:\?
All I have is the restore so I guess they did it that way. As long as I can
get to the files I should be OK right?
