Missing Drive

When I boot up with XP and go into setup, my C and D
Drive are both seen. When I am already up, the C drive is
there and readable but no D drive. The c is there as well
as the E: CDC drive.

Where did it go

My crystal ball is in the shop - what *is* the D drive, a hard drive,
cd-rxx, zip, etc.?
