View Full Version : My Documents Folders: Taking Ownership or Setting Permissions

I cannot take ownership nor set permissions for the My
Documents folders...or, in fact, for any folders on my c:
drive. The security tab is absent from the property box,
and won't appear in spite of repeatedly clearing the "Use
simple file sharing" checkbox.

I don't have the same problem on my other drive. I also
note that I cannot clear the read-only attribute for any
directory on c:, again in spite of using ATTRIB at the
command prompt.

Anyone suggest what's going on?

Peter

Is C formatted with NTFS ?
The checkbox with the read-only label on folders is not=20
the directory's read-only attribute. Yeah - go figure.
Rather, it is a switch used to set or unset the attribute on=20
the contained files. The attribute on directories can only=20
be seen and changed with the attrib command.
