View Full Version : share NTFS drive
pam

I have an external Maxtor 120GB (USB) drive that I want
to use for backup. It arrived with FAT format. I
reformatted the drive as NTFS so that it would hold large
backup files. I am able to use it from the machine to
which it is physicaly connected, but cannot access it
through my Windows network, even though I define the
partition as shared or folders on a partition. As I read
the help on the matter, there is supposed to be
a "security" tab available on the drive properties, but
it does not show up.

That tab is available in Pro when the machine is not in=20
Simple sharing mode (in View tab of Folder Options),=20
or when in a Safe Mode boot with either XP version.

I appreciate your help with this. I don't understand
what "simple sharing mode" is (though obviously its the
mode my computer is in) and how to get the computer to a
different mode.
Thanks.
