Hi-

For no apparent reason, my notebook now has a start-up problem. When
powered on, it goes through the windows logo and when it comes to where it
normally shows the desktop- there is just a solid light-blue screen. No
errors or anything - it just sticks on this light-blue screen - It is a
different shade of blue than the blue screen of death. If I do safe-mode it
will boot properly - so I did a system restore from safe-mode - when I
restarted, everything worked perfectly. When I shut the computer down, and
tried to restart later - I got stuck on the light-blue screen again. I
suppose I could go to safe mode and do system restore again - But I really
don't want to do this everytime I try to boot up...

Any ideas?

Thanks...

That "Light-Blue" screen is indicative of a pre-start application
trying to run. Chkdsk at book has this background color &
it also appears doing a Perfect Disk boot time defrag. Perhaps
something has been queued to run at the next boot but is not
running correctly. I believe this is something similar to a batch
file, but I can't remember the naming convention or where it is
stored to run.

We want to implement the Cleanboot process using MSCONFIG to rule out 3rd
party software as the cause of this issue. MSCONFIG from XP can also be used
on a Windows 2000 Pro or Server client.

Go to Start\Run type in Msconfig and press OK.
Go to the Startup tab.
Click on "Disable All"
Go to the Services Tab
Click on "Hide all Microsoft Services"
Uncheck the 3rd party services that are left
Press OK twice to reboot.

Once your computer is restarted see if the issue still occurs. if it still
does go to Msconfig and select Enable All on the startup tab.
If the issue does not occur go to the Startup tab and select items 4 at a
time or so with reboots in between to narrow down the exact item causing
your problem.
