View Full Version : EFS encryption after password is changed in Novell

We are using the Novell client for security
administration. When the users' passwords expire and are
changed, encrypted files within a folder with EFS can not
be accessed. Does anyone know of a solution to this
problem?

When passwords are administratively reset rather than=20
being changed by the user, EFS access is broken by=20
design. Perhaps this is how the Novell client is doing=20
things under the covers. If so, I doubt that you will=20
find a solution and will need to open this as a problem=20
of incompatibility with Novell. The solution is to have=20
the password changed within the security context of the=20
account that is having its password changed. You could=20
consider providing an alternate interface to your users so=20
that they can use XP directly for this.

If you created a Recovery Agent - us it to recover all of your encrypted
files.
(see Help and Support for how to create a Recovery Agent in future)

Thanks Roger,
This is what I was afraid of. But, needed to hear it
from someone else.
