I support several clients for a software development
company and have run into a problem, over which I've
toiled a few days. The client wants their users to use an
Hp 5550 printer and they are "limited users". The Hp 5550
uses individual serial numbers to create the hardware
id's. At first I though that I would just a "limited
user" security settings that could be changed with either
a setting, service, or registry change, but what I'm
running into is different. When logged on as a newly
created "limited user" I plug in a "new" 5550 with a
different sn#, Plug and play manager takes over and
installs the printer, but asks for an administrator login
when doing this. If you cancel the "admin" login then the
login prompt will appear everytime you plug in the
printer, even though the printer works and prints fine.
I've spent many hours trying to find some kind of work-
around and now I guess I'll see if anyone else has run
into this.
