Hi,

Last night I decided to upgrade my memory from 256 SD RAM
to 512 DDR 2100 Memory. I removed the old memory, switched
the jumpers (all three sets) on my Mercury KT226a FDSX
motherboard, and installed the new memory. On powering up
it detected the meomery correctly, came to the boot menu
in xp pro I hit start in safe mode and the whole pc
rebooted. This time i disabled quick post test, and
restarted. The mem check went through three times before
booting. Same problem. I removed and re-installed the
memory in the other bank.

The system now boots in safe mode until it reaches
Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)Partition(1)\windows\system s32
\drivers\mup.sys

All other modes of starting have the same effect.

Anyone have any ideas..?

Fraser

The new memory you put in is either bad or incompatible with your
motherboard and/or the original memory. You will need to replace it.

What were those jumpers supposed to do? MOST motherboards don't require
jumper changes for much any more, including detection of the processor.
Needing to change three jumpers just to add memory seems a bit over the top.
Then again, I did a quick search and couldn't find a website for any company
named Mercury that makes motherboard.

If it isn't a problem with whatever the jumpers were for, then it's probably
bad or incompatible ram.
