I am looking to find a solution to this problem,
I performed a system restore then my comp told me a file
called system32\ntoskrnl.exe was missing and I needed to
reinstall it. I then tried to use the boot disk to fix
the problem but it wanted my administrator password, I do
not remember the password. So I need to know where I can
find it or a way to change it. I installed a 2nd winxp OS
and transplanted the missing file to the old winxp OS but
that just made the system restart. Any help?

Try this link to see if it will help:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314477

If your computer will not start in the old partition, you can
perform the steps from the new partition. Your second installation
may be Windows XP without the SP1 which means the file versions do
not match. You may be able to edit the first partition's boot.ini
from the second partition.

Your second question. Do you have administrative rights with your
user account? You can set a new password for the Administrator
account. Any personalized settings with the account will be lost.
If you have never signed on with that account, it is of little
consequence. Once you set a new password for the Administrator
account create a password reset disk so you will not lose the
password again.
