Windows XP Licencing

I upgraded an older PC to Windows XP. That PC has been
recalled (lemon) and I now have a new PC which had Windows
XP Factory installed. I also was given a PC which has
Windows 98. Can I transfer the Windows XP license from
the 1st PC to the 3rd PC? Who do I contact to do this?

If the copy of xp you had was a retail version you purchased, then yes you
can install it on the win98 machine. Run the compatability wizard on the
win98 machine first to see if it will take xp. No one to contact, activation
should go thru as normal over the internet.(at the worst you'll have to call
ms to get activated).

Yes, if you used a retail version of XP on your old machine. Only
OEM versions (like that on your new machine) are not
transferable.

Just install it on the 3rd machine and activate it. If it's been
more than 120 days since activation, it will activate over the
internet just as it did before. If fewer than 120 days, you will
be given an 800 number to call. Just explain the circumstances
and they'll give you a number to enter; it's quick and easy.
