I was using XP to make some simple data cds. I need to copy a utility disk
so I installed ezcd creator 5.

now direct cd says there aren't any supported recorders and same with cd
copier.

I've done searches on google for the error message and on the results it
shows forums posts with that answer, then when you click the link there's
nothing with any relevance on that page...it's as if the search results were
cached or something so it just draws you in because of old outdated info.

At first when I was installing it said I should remove ecdc basic but I
dont' know what it was talkin about cause I don't have that installed...or
atleast, it's not in add/remove programs and there's no folder in my program
files...so I installed anyway.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling...and this time I didn't get a message
saying it was previously installed, but it still doesn't recognize it..

Also, I now have 2 entries in msconfig for direct CD, I hate when programs
don't clean up after themselves.

still hoping for a solution. (ECDC 5 plat XP Pro)

The directions at the Roxio site suggest installing version 5 and applying
several updates before the program is launched for the first time. There is
a file linked in Alex Nichol's article about XP CD burning on Jim
Eshelman's site that gets rid of the filters added by the Roxio install.
Article also includes a troubleshooting section:
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm

Am suggesting that you remove Roxio and try again using their prescribed
method of installing version 5.
